I’ll be the first to admit that my home office has an absolute “organized chaos” vibe. There may be the odd box or camera lens strewn about, but if there’s one thing that I can’t abide getting in the way, it’s cables. The sad part? My home office is full of them. From lighting to USB-C, I still have tons of wires that I need for odd and endless tasks.
Then, my fiancé ordered me this tiny charging tower that takes up virtually no room and gives me all the juice that I need. It handles every device I work with, from my iPad to my Magic Mouse and Keyboard, and keeps all my chords in one easy-to-access place. Usually, I wouldn’t talk about such a small addition to my office, but the specs of this little charging tower can’t be ignored.
A cheap way to manage any chord setup
From Thunderbolts to USB, this tower is both customizable and cheap
My much better-looking half realized I had a cord problem one day when she asked me for a USB-C cable. After fishing around my desk for a full five minutes, she said aloud the thing that I had feared the most: “You’ve got to do something with these chords.”
I nodded in my defeated silence, knowing full well she was right. However, I’m indecisive at best and frugal at my worst, so she knew I wouldn’t order it for myself. A few days later, a package arrived containing the little tower. I immediately began checking out the specs of my new toy, and was pleasantly surprised to find out a) how little she had spent on me and b) how good of a deal she had gotten on this tiny tower of power.
The specs are impressive for the size
Most charging towers need their own desk, but this one is both tiny and mighty
I half-expected this tower to offer little more than a trickle charge when I first opened the box, but to my surprise, the specs are impressive, given its lack of… stature. With six ports in total, two of which are USB-C, the tower charges quickly and efficiently. I also worried about heat from the tower, but I haven’t noticed any excess temperatures yet, and it’s been more than a couple of weeks since I started with the tower.
With a respectable wattage and internal overload protection, it makes me feel safe about leaving multiple devices plugged in at once. I’ve yet to try all six ports at once, and don’t see myself ever needing to, but with a 4.6-star rating on Amazon, most users have zero trouble with their models.
Is chord management even a real issue
With more people loading up their desks, you bet
Today, if you don’t run a dual-monitor setup, the chances are you use a multiscreen setup with a tablet or laptop. For instance, in my little Apple ecosystem bubble, I often have my MacBook or iPad open alongside my desktop to run other tasks or have a few more tools at my disposal, especially when I’m waiting for a photo album to denoise. While the batteries on these devices are better than most, they still aren’t perfect, so I usually try to keep them on a charger to maintain a full charge or at least slow the power draw.
Now, with my little tower of power, all of my chords come from the same place, and they’re all nicely organized at the same time. I’m just glad she didn’t wait until Christmas to give it to me.
