This home theater upgrade gives me Dolby Atmos sound without the mess

When you think of a home theater, the first thing that comes to mind is probably something along the lines of speakers, a TV, or a projector. While those things are the most important aspects of a home theater, there are some other things you have to pay attention to. After getting all my speakers in the right place, I struggled to find out how I could properly wire my surround speakers other than running a set of wires across my floor. I ended up buying a rug for my living room that did a good job covering everything up, but there was still work that had to be done.

I wasn’t feeling great about having wires running under my rug completely uncovered, especially since that’s a place where there’s a lot of foot traffic and a dog that jumps around quite often. The solution to this problem was Sewell’s ghost wire. The ghost wire is essentially a piece of tape that runs from my receiver under my rug all the way to the back of my couch. The speaker wire connects to both ends of it, and the current flows through the tape while remaining flat on the ground. This means there’s no way a wire can be frayed by somebody stepping on it because there’s not a wire this can happen to. This lets me get my full Dolby Atmos setup without having a tripping hazard.

You might have reservations about having a piece of tape running across your floor, and I’m right there with you. If I didn’t have anything to cover up the tape, I’m not sure what I’d do. Fortunately, that’s not my situation, and this ghost wire works perfectly for my needs. You don’t even have to use it on your floor if you don’t want to either. I saw many people when I was researching wire solutions use the ghost wire to run down from their height speakers to the floor. You can have it attached directly to the wall and even paint it the same color. If you do it correctly, nothing looks out of place.

Now, I’m not the most tidy person, and I don’t like to take precise measurements, so I cut off quite a bit more of the tape than I needed. What this resulted in is having a bunch of it balled up behind my couch, but it still gets the job done. If you manage to keep it out of harm’s way whether that’s from a child or a pet, then you should have no problem.

When I first got my setup put together, I thought that was going to be the end of it. As I continued to do more research, I stumbled across things like this aforementioned ghost wire, and the rest was history. What I’m trying to say is that even though you think you have everything you need, there are still many small changes you can make. I started off with having my speakers on my entertainment stand, but I eventually upgraded and got dedicated speaker stands.

The good news is that many of the upgrades like this don’t have to be expensive. The most expensive part is out of the way if you already have your speakers, and I even cheap out in other areas. For example, I’m using Amazon Basics-branded speaker wire, and I haven’t had a single problem. As long as you do just a little bit of research before buying something, you’re typically good to go. As long as your speakers are nice, I think the rest of your setup will be just fine. If you need to run wire across your living room, picking up a roll of ghost wire is great.
