Black Friday is already in full swing on Amazon, even before Thanksgiving festivities have begun. So before you carve the turkey and dive into the green bean casserole, you might be itching to get some holiday shopping out of the way. And if you know a voracious reader (or are one yourself), the chances of a Kindle e-reader being on your shopping spree are high.
But before you make that list, know I’ve already checked Amazon’s twice and determined which three Kindle early Black Friday deals are the best bang for your buck. In order of appearance, here are the top three Amazon Kindle deals right now.
Best deal overall
Base Kindle (16 GB)
Kindles are single-use devices, and are darn good at what they do: making reading easier and more convenient in every way possible. While Amazon’s e-reader lineup has various ‘nicer’ models that add new features and frills to enhance your reading experience in various ways, the basic model gets the job done and sets a high baseline bar in the first place for the rest to follow.
As I’ve said before, the base Kindle is the e-reader most users should buy. Right now, it’s marked down $30 for the early Black Friday savings. That’s a 27% reduction, and definitely on the better end of the Kindle sales. It may not have the heaviest discount, but it ends up being the least amount of money across the entire lineup for the most everyday value — that’s why I think it’s the very best deal for any kind of reader.

- 16GB
- Screen Size
- 6-inch E Ink (300ppi)

- USB-C
Amazon’s base-level Kindle ships with 16GB of storage, a 6-inch E Ink display, and a ruggedized exterior shell that can withstand the elements.
Best opportunity
Kindle Scribe (64 GB)
I’m new to the Scribe family, and I am pleasantly blown away by how much the digital notebook revolutionized my workflow. Its smooth matte screen and versatile templates stole my heart and replaced my stationery at the same time, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to analog paper planning. However, like I said in my reflection after using it for a month, it’s particularly hard to justify such a hefty cost for a single-use device. I love the device, but I wouldn’t pay full price for it.
But, the holidays bring hope and several wonderful financial opportunities, including Black Friday. This week, the 64 GB Kindle Scribe is marked down a whopping $140 and selling for a much more palatable $310. Is it still expensive? Yes. But if you’ve had your eye on it for a while, I’d say that right now is the best (and only good) time to buy a Kindle Scribe.

Best markdown
Kindle Colorsoft (16 GB)
Amazon’s first color E Ink Kindle is the Colorsoft, and it’s the perfect device to binge graphic novels, manga, or upload some colorful PDFs to enjoy without eye strain. It might’ve had a rocky release into the world (we try to forget about the infamous yellow stripe and recalls), but it’s carved out a place for itself among the line of beloved e-readers.
I typically don’t read the kind of e-books that would warrant a Kindle Colorsoft, but there’s no denying the appeal of a hefty 32% markdown. The Kindle Colorsoft (16 GB) is on sale for $170, a whopping $80 off from its normal $250 asking price.
Now, you might be wondering why it’s at the bottom of my ‘best deals’ list. The Colorsoft is wonderful for reading graphic novels and similar e-books, but those kinds of files are much larger than a traditional text-only e-book. One page of a graphic novel can take up to 5MB, depending on its graphics — that means that if a comic is about 32 pages, it could hog up to 32-160MB of storage real estate (read more about that here). That just means you may approach the (typically) high 16 GB storage ceiling faster if you’re collecting graphic novels than a text-based e-book reader might.
If you indulge every so often in a graphic novel and wouldn’t consider them your primary reads, this model is absolutely perfect for you. Run, don’t walk!
