Huawei HM740: HarmonyOS Laptop With 21-Hour Battery

Huawei has just introduced it’s newest laptop, the HM740, the first office computer bundled with HarmonyOS, expanding the brand’s operating system beyond mobile devices. The machine was designed specifically for enterprise productivity and brings a combo of features like portability, performance, and advanced connectivity.

Sporting a slim and lightweight design (1.32 kg/2.91 lbs. with a thickness of 14.5 mm/0.57-inches), the computer has a 14.2-inch OLED touchscreen with a 120 Hz refresh rate, 2.8K resolution, 450 nits peak brightness, and full coverage of both sRGB and P3 color gamuts. The display also received TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort certification, offering low flicker, high eye protection, and a high contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 for a more accurate color rendering. The touchscreen is compatible with the Huawei M-Pen 3, supporting handwriting and gesture controls such as an air-mouse mode.

The HM740 is positioned as an office-focused machine, targeted at enterprise clients with smartphone-centric workflows, promising a fully independent system-to-ecosystem integration catered to productivity sectors such as finance and energy. It’s performance when handling files can be considered a strong point, being capable of decompressing 2.5 GB in 2.7 seconds and compressing the same amount in 9.8 seconds, what reflects the efficiency of Huawei’s internal hardware and software optimization.

One of the big highlights is its 70Wh battery, which Huawei claims to deliver the longest endurance in its PC lineup. The Chinese brand says that the HM740 can play 1080p video for up to 21 hours and support 15 hours of voice calls, outperforming competitors like Apple’s M4 MacBooks. For those worried about data leaks, the device includes a Super Privacy Switch, which can disconnect the camera, microphone, and other sensors with a single click.

Speaking about connectivity, the HM740 is equipped with a 3 antenna Wi-Fi 7+ system featuring a ring-diaphragm dual-frequency structure designed to eliminate dead zones and keep stable connections at distances up to 420 meters in open environments.

It also introduces NearLink, a next-generation technology offering high bandwidth, low latency, and improved energy efficiency, allowing the device to broadcast signals using a low-power chip even when powered off, making it easier in terms of device discovery and pairing.

Optimizations in software include the HarmonyOS Celia AI assistant, capable of generating research-level reports, managing files in a smart way, and improving note-taking. The laptop also supports Dual Digital Space, enabling users to switch between personal and enterprise environments using a four-finger swipe gesture.

The HM740 includes zero-latency provisioning tools for enterprise deployment and supports running dedicated on-device AI models, ensuring that sensitive data remains stored and processed locally.

No pricing or global availability information were given so far, but this computer reinforces Huawei’s commitment to expanding it’s OS and smart features even further, reaching the enterprise niche. It may not be as eye-catching as the MatePad Edge, but having such a good battery life will indeed turn some heads. Let’s hope to hear more about it’s availability worldwide soon.
