Christmas just came early for Pixel owners with this new update

To wrap up the year, Google has released its final Pixel update for 2025. While it’s not as flashy as some of the Pixel feature drops earlier this year, it brings a number of bug fixes and improvements that all Pixel users will likely appreciate.

Two of the most notable fixes in this update relate to charging. First, Google has finally fixed the issue where the battery icon on certain Pixel phones could suddenly display a “?” instead of the actual charge percentage. As you can imagine, this worried many users who thought their batteries were dying, but fortunately, it turned out to be mainly a software issue, and Google has resolved it.

The update also addresses a problem with the 80 percent charging limit. According to Google’s release notes, the battery’s charge limit could be “incorrect in certain conditions,” preventing it from stopping at the intended 80 percent. I use the 80 percent charge limit on my Pixel 8a to help preserve the battery, so I’m glad to see this issue finally resolved.

The December Pixel update also has fixes for the Pixel 10 series

In addition to the charging features I mentioned earlier that Google fixed, it also addressed some glitches users experienced with its new Pixel 10 series devices, which launched earlier this year.

Specifically, Google fixed several display issues, including one that caused the screen to flash or suddenly go black and another that led to it hanging or freezing. It also fixed a problem with Pixel 10 screens where brightness would dim, requiring users to turn the screen off and on to restore normal brightness.

For all Pixel phones (6 and newer), Google fixed a Bluetooth connection issue affecting some devices, fixed multiple UI problems, and made “general improvements for system stability and performance.” I won’t list every fix here, but you can review the full changelog for the December update on the Pixel Phone Help Page.

To update your Pixel, you can find the option under Settings > System > Software updates.

For all Android 16 phones, Google recently released the latest Android 16 update as well, introducing new features like AI-powered notification summaries, a new notification organizer that automatically groups notifications (such as promotions, news, and social alerts), and additional ways to personalize the user interface, including custom-shaped icons for apps on your home screen and themed icons.

Finally, Google recently released its updated Android Security Bulletin for December, clearly outlining all the Android vulnerabilities it fixed for all Android devices, not just Pixels, for its December 2025 security patch. The most notable security fix was in its Framework component, which could have allowed for “remote denial of service” attacks.

To get the latest Pixel and Android 16 updates on your device, you don’t need to do anything complicated; just go to Settings and check if a software update is available. To update your Pixel, you can find the option under Settings > System > Software updates. Keep in mind that the latest December Pixel update is only available for the Pixel 6 series and newer, so if you have an older Pixel, you won’t be able to download it.
