If you’re one of the few people left out there still using Apple’s Clips app, we have bad news. Apple announced the app will no longer receive updates, so Apple’s Snapchat competitor is all but dead in the water. You can continue to use the app if you have it installed, but new users are no longer able to download it as it’s been removed from the App Store as of October 10. You can also redownload it if you’ve previously downloaded it before.
The app will likely continue to work for the time being, but there’s a chance that future iOS updates could eventually lead to its demise, and Apple won’t step in to fix anything if something goes wrong. Apple says to save any videos you want to keep as there’s no guarantee they’ll stick around if the app stops working.

In 2025, it’s fair to say that Snapchat has reigned supreme over the likes of Clips, and it can be argued that Instagram Stories still lag behind. Both Snapchat and Instagram have found a way to co-exist, and the real issue with Clips might have been its lack of publicity. I imagine many people reading this have heard of the app for the first time, and a big reason for that is there was no real reason to leave behind Snapchat if you already had it.
The writing was on the wall as there hasn’t been a major update to Clips in quite a while, and that’s never a good sign for an app. There’s no telling what future iOS update will eventually break the app, but you should migrate to a different service before it happens. For the time being, Clips continues to live on if you’re on iOS 26 or earlier.
