My favorite free TV streaming service now has 250 live channels

I have so many fond memories of when streaming was actually cheap. I remember when YouTube TV was just $35 a month, Disney+ was $7, and Netflix’s premium plan was only $12. Sadly, those days are long gone, and streaming prices just keep climbing. One bright spot, though, has been the rise of FAST (free ad-supported television) streaming services.

Apps like Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, Tubi, Plex, and MyFree DirecTV have grown in popularity thanks to the wide variety of free TV channels they offer, making it easier than ever to watch your favorite shows and movies without paying a dime. Even big companies like Google have jumped on the trend, with Google launching “free channels” on Google TV in 2023. In late 2024, Google rebranded them as Google TV Freeplay — and since then, the number of free channels has grown exponentially.

Now, according to 9to5Google, Google TV Freeplay has over 250 free channels, thanks to a batch of new additions just before the holidays. There’s something for everyone, with highlights including NBC Sports Now, BBC Drama, The Graham Norton Show, America’s Got Talent, and plenty of Universal-themed channels like Universal Monsters, Universal Movies, Universal Action, and Universal Westerns.

There are 48 new free channels in total

Google has added a mix of entertainment and local channels in its latest Google TV Freeplay update, and they’re all now available. However, these channels are only accessible in the US. If you’re outside the US, you’ll need to turn to other free live TV services, like Roku or Plex.

As I mentioned earlier, if these Google TV Freeplay channels don’t grab your attention, there are plenty of other free live TV options to explore, like Roku, Plex, Pluto TV, and even Prime Video.
