Perplexity has released Comet, its new AI-enhanced web browser for Android, now available on the Google Play Store. The launch brings an AI-centric browsing experience to mobile devices, extending the company’s strategy of integrating intelligent assistance directly into the navigation process. With Comet, users can interact with an integrated AI assistant that analyzes web content and answers questions about the pages open in their tabs.
The Android version replicates the main capabilities previously introduced in the desktop edition. The built-in AI assistant can review and interpret the content of active tabs, provide clarifications about specific pages, and generate summaries of the material being viewed. This allows users to quickly understand complex information without needing to manually search for explanations. Additionally, Comet includes voice interaction support, enabling users to issue spoken commands and receive responses hands-free, enhancing accessibility and convenience.
This launch positions Perplexity as one of the first companies to offer a mobile browser designed primarily around artificial intelligence. While other platforms have introduced AI-related features, their approaches differ. For instance, ChatGPT Atlas remains exclusive to macOS, limiting its accessibility across devices. Meanwhile, Google has integrated its Gemini model into Chrome on desktops and mobile devices, but this implementation functions more like an extension rather than a fully AI-driven browsing environment.
At this stage, Comet for Android does not yet synchronize browsing history or bookmarks between mobile and desktop versions. Perplexity states that cross-platform syncing is included in its development roadmap and should become available within the coming weeks. The company aims to unify the browser experience across devices, improving continuity for users who switch between mobile and desktop environments.
The desktop version of Comet was initially launched in July, exclusively for subscribers of Perplexity’s Max plan. In the following month, its availability expanded to a broader audience, gaining traction among users interested in AI-powered browsing tools. The Android release marks the next step in the browser’s rollout, bringing Perplexity’s AI capabilities to a wider user base and signaling the company’s intention to compete directly in the evolving landscape of AI-first web browsers.
